2027: APC Disowns Abayomi Hunye, Says Olamilekan Remains Ogun Governorship Candidate

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has disowned Abayomi Hunye, who has reportedly presented himself as the party’s candidate for the 2027 Ogun State governorship election, describing him as an impostor.

The APC National Secretary, Sen. Ajibola Basiru, made the position known in a statement issued in Abuja on Monday.

Basiru said Sen. Adeola Olamilekan remains the party’s officially recognised governorship candidate for the 2027 election, with Balogun Abiodun as his running mate.

APC says Hunye is suspended

According to Basiru, Hunye is not currently a member of the APC in good standing, having been suspended from the party on April 7, 2026.

He said the suspension followed a petition from Hunye’s ward in Ipokia Local Government Area of Ogun State and was subsequently ratified by the Ogun State Working Committee.

The APC national secretary said the suspension was based on allegations including activities considered harmful to the party’s image, anti-party conduct and actions allegedly intended to create division among party members.

Basiru described Hunye’s recent claim to the APC governorship ticket as false and unauthorised.

“His recent self-declaration as the governorship candidate of our party for the 2027 election is completely false, unauthorised, and a mischievous act aimed at misleading the public.”

Olamilekan remains APC candidate, party insists

Basiru reiterated that Adeola Olamilekan emerged as the APC’s governorship candidate following the party’s primary election.

He said Olamilekan’s nomination, alongside that of his running mate, Abiodun, was in accordance with the Electoral Act 2026 and the guidelines of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The APC official further claimed that the candidates’ names and other relevant details had already been uploaded to the INEC portal.

According to him, INEC had issued acknowledgement slips confirming Olamilekan and Abiodun as the APC’s recognised candidates for the Ogun 2027 governorship election.

APC warns against dealings with Hunye

The party warned individuals, groups and organisations against conducting political business with Hunye while representing himself as an APC candidate.

Basiru said anyone who enters into such dealings would do so at their own risk, adding that the party would not accept responsibility for any financial losses, legal disputes or possible criminal liability arising from such transactions.

He urged APC supporters in Ogun to remain calm and law-abiding and avoid actions that could disrupt the peace of the state.

The national secretary also advised anyone seeking clarification about the party’s candidates or other developments to contact the APC national secretariat.
