Former Green Eagles Goalkeeper, Emmanuel Okala, says he has seen a new set of Super Eagles that is hungry to make a mark in the ongoing African Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2019 championship, taking place in Egypt.
Okala said this on Wednesday, while reacting to the outcome of the Super Eagles and Guinean match in Alexandria.
Super Eagles defeated Guinea in the tension-soaked match by 1–0 scored by Kenneth Omeruo.
Okala congratulated Eagles for picking the maximum three points and showing clear improvement from their first match against Burundi.
He said: “I feel very happy and overwhelmed with joy for the victory and I am also proud of their performance today.
“Technically, I saw a clear improvement in the team today.
“I can confidently tell you that I see a Super Eagles that is hungry to do better in this tournament and a national team that is determined to go far in the competition.’’
Okala, a member of the 1980 African Cup of Nations Cup-winning squad, however, urged the team to always rally round each other to cover areas of lapses, which were visible in the match.
“When a teammate makes a mistake, others should cover him up and ensure that they re-enforce the teamwork and oneness spirit,’’ he further said.
With the result, Super Eagles have qualified for the Round of 16.
