2015: Akpabio calls for prayers in search for successor

godswill_akpabio_official_photoGov. Godswill Akpabio of Akwa Ibom on Monday appealed to the people of the state to seek God’s intervention in the search for his successor in 2015.

He made the appeal in Uyo in a statewide broadcast to mark the 26th anniversary of the state’s creation.

Akwa Ibom was created on Sept. 23, 1987 by the administration of a former military Head of State, Gen. Ibrahim Babangida.

Akpabio advised the people to place the interests of the state above personal ambitions, adding that they should also allow their patriotic feelings to supersede ethnic and sectional interests.

“We must go to God in prayers; we must ensure that we do not compromise our collective gains and mortgage our peaceful coexistence and future on the altar of narrow, parochial interests.

“We must remember that what is morally wrong cannot be politically right. We must play politics of inclusion instead of politics of exclusion,” he said.

Akpabio said that his administration since 2007 had been handed over to God, adding that had been the source of his success.

“We have proved that anything founded on God can never see decay,’’ he added.

The governor said that he had redefined the Akwa Ibom project, while making the state a reference point in governance in Nigeria.

He said that some of the projects which his administration executed were the new Government House, the VIP Guest House, 320 new roads and five cottage hospitals.

He added that the other projects included the e-library project, the pipe-jacking drainage technology, an independent power plant (IPP) and an International Airport.

Besides, Akpabio said that projects such as the 30,000-capacity Olympic-size stadium, the 250-room five star hotel, the Ibom Special Hospital and the Ibaka Deep Seaport were still ongoing.

He commended all his predecessors for their input and sacrifices in efforts to realise the lofty dreams for the state’s development.
