The police, in Lagos on Tuesday, arraigned two mechanics – Femi Mayomi and Sulaimon Semiu – before a Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing an Audi 80 saloon car, worth N800,000.
Mayomi, 39 and Semiu, 35, are facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing, to which they, however, pleaded not guilty.
The Prosecutor, Insp Edet Ekpo, told the court that the defendants committed the offences on April 24, at 12.30. a.m. at a mechanic workshop, opposite Nigerian French Language Village, Badagry.
Ekpo said that the defendants stole the car, belonging to the complainant, Mr Matthew Oluwasegun.
He said that the complainant gave the car to Semiu to repair and that he conspired with Mayomi to steal it.

According to him, the offences contravene Sections 411 and 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos, 2015.
Section 287 stipulates three years jail term for stealing, while Section 411 provides two years for conspiracy.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr L.A. Layeni, granted the defendants bail in the sum of N500,000 each, with two sureties each in like sum.
Layeni adjourned the case till June 6 for mention.
