Twelve ships carrying petroleum products, agricultural inputs and various commodities have arrived at ports in Lagos and are awaiting clearance to discharge their cargoes.
The vessels are currently positioned at the Lekki, Tin-Can Island and Apapa ports, with their cargoes including petrol, bulk fertiliser, general cargo, wheat, aviation fuel, diesel and crude oil.
The Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) disclosed this in its latest Shipping Position report made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos on Thursday.
27 more vessels expected at Lagos ports
The NPA also reported that another 27 ships carrying petroleum products, food items and other commodities are expected to arrive at the Apapa, Lekki and Tin-Can Island ports between Aug. 13 and Aug. 28.
The incoming vessels are expected to bring a variety of cargoes, including bulk pallets, wheat, fresh fish, general cargo, petrol, aviation fuel and containers carrying assorted goods.
The development highlights continued maritime activity at Lagos ports as vessels transporting essential commodities arrive for discharge and distribution across the country.
21 ships currently discharging cargo
Meanwhile, 21 other vessels are already at the Lagos ports, where they are undergoing cargo discharge operations.
According to the NPA, the vessels are handling containers, petrol, aviation fuel, diesel, bulk sugar, bulk gas, bulk wheat, bulk urea and other general cargo.
The movement of petroleum products, fertiliser, food commodities and industrial goods through the ports remains significant to Nigeria’s supply chain and domestic market.
The Apapa, Lekki and Tin-Can Island ports are among the major maritime gateways supporting the movement of imported goods and petroleum-related products into Lagos and other parts of Nigeria.
