Tragedy struck on Sunday afternoon along Suleja-Minna road when 11 members of J’amatul Izalatul Bidia Wo Ikamati Sunnah (JIBWIS) from Kebbi State were killed in a ghastly auto crash in Suleja on their way back home after attending an education appeal fund programme in Abuja.
The Unit Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Suleja Mr. Edwin Nwokike, told journalists on Monday that the incident involved a Toyota Hiace bus conveying members of JIBWIS from Abuja to Suru in Kebbi and a Volkswagen Gulf car coming from Minna to Suleja.
According to him “the two vehicles were over speeding and had head on collision while trying to avoid pot holes”.
Nwokike said the accident occurred at about 2:20p.m. while the rescue team of the FRSC got to the scene of the accident at about 2:25 pm.
He said the driver of the Gulf car was alone and died on the spot, nine passengers in the Toyota bus also died on the spot, one other died after reaching the hospital while nine sustained injuries.
The Unit commander said eight of the nine injured passengers have been treated and discharged while one is still receiving treatment at the hospital.
