The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) says it has deployed 100 personnel and Special Marshals along Sème- Badagry-Agbara route for traffic control during the yuletide.
The Unit Commander, FRSC, Mr Williams Manga, disclosed this in an interview in Badagry on Saturday.
Manga said the deployment was imperative to ensure the command met the demands of the period and safety on roads.
According to him, the one lane axis of the expressway has just been completed and fully opened to motorists.
“So, motorists are taking the advantage of the expressway by driving recklessly.
“My personnel are on the one lane expressway to control traffic and ensure smooth movement all vehicles without crashes.
“We have mapped out black spots and accident-prone areas like Oko-Afo, Mowo junction, Badagry Roundabout, Gbaji check point and Seme border which will be manned strictly throughout the festive period.
“My personnel have been positioned in those areas to ensure free flow of traffic and to ensure that traffic laws are obeyed,” he said.
Manga said that his men have been positioned at strategy areas to ensure free flow of traffic during the yuletide.
“There are peculiarities with Badagry because the town is a tourist center and it is loaded with historical monuments for people to visit during this festive period.
“As an agency responsible for traffic management in Badagry, we are expecting that there will be influx of people during the festival.
“We have been given marching order to ensure that traffic rules and regulations are strictly observed during this period.
“We are not on the road to carry dead bodies, but to ensure that there are no fatalities, no crash; this is our goal in 2023,” he said.
He, however, said that the unit had since September, begun an aggressive public enlightenment program in various places of worship and public places in Badagry to educate the residents on the need to have accident-free `ember’ months.
The commander advised motorists to check their cars and make sure they were in good condition before proceeding on any journey during the festive period.
