Yakmut praises Adeboye, RCCG on Sports Summit

The Director-General of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Mallam Al Hassan Yakmut, is full of praises for the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, over the church’s initiative to wake-up the country’s sports authorities on the possibility of Team Nigeria winning gold medals at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

Yakmut, who spoke at the 4th Annual Redeemers Sports Summit held at the Youth Centre of the Redemption Camp on Km 46 Lagos-Ibadan Expressway on Monday, expressed his delight to the leadership of the church for deeming it fit to organize such event aimed at paving the way for Nigeria’s excellent performance at the biggest Games in the world.

“The RCCG Sports Summit has opened the way for active stakeholders’ collaboration for Nigeria to win medals at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.”

He noted: “If the National Sports Commission should do the right things with athletes without interruption from the ages of 18 to 19 years, the Team Nigeria would better for it. When the fastest man in the world, Usain Bolt, hit the limelight in 2008, he was just 19 years old and five years down the line he has become the fastest man on the planet. So, just as the RCCG has told us, if we discover talented athletes now, they would Olympic champions in five years with articulate development programmes.”

The Secretary General of the Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC), Tunde Popoola, said at the event that: “The vision of the RCCG is to actualize the word of knowledge of the General Overseer last year April, that Nigeria will win gold medals at the 2020 Olympics. We believe this will happen for Team Nigeria. To achieve this feat, the NOC is set to play its part by partnering the church to achieve this. We have agreed to follow in this vision to achieve this at Tokyo 2020.”

The CEO of Brila Sports, Dr. Larry Izamoje, spoke on the role of the Media, Olympic gold medalist, Eniofok Udo-Obong, spoke on the Roles of Ex-Olympians, while NOC Marketing Consultant, Mr. Taiwo Adekoya, spoke on the Roles of Corporate Organisations on the actualization of Nigeria’s medal winning performance at the 2020 Olympics.

The Chairman of the Lagos State Sports Commission, Mr. Deji Tinubu, former Athletics Federation of Nigeria president, Mr. Tony Urhobo and the Ogun State Commissioner for Sports were some of the other guests at the Sports Summit.
