Rector of Yaba College of Technology, Dr. Margaret Kudirat Ladipo, has charged members of Team Nigeria to emulate the performance of the D’Tigers by topping the medal’s table at the All Africa Games which gets underway in Congo this weekend
Ladipo believes the recent feat of D’Tigers at the FIBA African Championship in Tunisia where they defeated Angola in the final will spur the Nigerian contingent to greatness at the Games.
The renowned educationist and sports philanthropist said this is the right time for the country to reclaim her sporting prowess. She commended the federal government for the timely release of funds for the contingent.
Ladipo appealed to the Nigeria Olympic Committee and the National Sports Commission to provide enabling environment and welfare packages for the athletes during the All Africa Games.
“Preparation for the Games has been one of the best in recent times because we’ve never had this type of preparations to major international events. The athletes should emulate the basketballers whose determination and persistence helped to win the FIBA Afrobasket title for the first time in the history of Nigeria.”
She noted that: “Our contingent should be free from banned drugs, camp allowances’ fiasco and indiscipline which can affect their mission. We need total concentration to enable us achieve overall best just like we did at COJA 2003 Games in Abuja. I have confidence that Team Nigeria will not disappoint if they can stay away from administrative crises which can affect us adversely if not checked.”
