The Yoruba nation was inflicted with a monumental shame and ridicule on Thursday when a few nondecrepit characters basically mortgaged their conscience and dignity by claiming that the South-West was not interested in the office of the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party.
“This is most illogical and patently absurd. It is absolute nonsense and irredeemably outrageous. This does not, in any way, represent the position or the will of the Yoruba people.
“As a matter of fact, the whole blatant spectacle of the subversion of the right of the Yoruba people was financed, promoted, and brazenly organized by Mr Buruji Kashamu. It is a disservice to call him a Senator.
“In terms of pedigree, in terms of moral antecedents, in terms of industry, education and all sense of propriety and civility that the Yoruba people treasure as the Omoluabi comportment, Kashamu is not the fit and proper person to speak for the Yorubaland.
“It is absolutely ridiculous and downright pathetic for Buruji , a man of undefined and mangled origins to even dream of articulating the will of the Yoruba people talk less of assuming a delusional leadership of the South-West. What a malady!
“In an enlightened expanse that has produced illustrious icons like Obafemi Awolowo, Ladoke Akintola, Bode Thomas, Adekunle Ajasin, Baba Onasanya, Ayo Adebanjo, Olaniwun Ajayi, Abraham Adesanya and so many heroes and heroines, how can Buruji, who is significantly challenged in moral bearing, can ever nurse a pipe dream of a regional leader ?
Even now, the South-West can still boast of men and women of great accomplishments and sterling moral dignity. A region that still parades eminent personalities and powerful evocative names like Chief Ebenezer Babatope, Chief Olabode George, Alhaji Yekeen Adeojo, Chief Shuaibu Oyedokun, Senator Clement Awoyelu, Chief Abiola Ogundokun, Senator Seye Ogunlewe, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, Professor Tunde Adeniran, Dr Saka Balogun, Dr Olu Alabi, Chief Jubril Martins Kuye, Chief Joju Fadairo, Dr Bimbo Ogunkelu, Senator Kofoworola Bucknor-Akerele, Chief Onikepo Oshodi, Senator Iyiola Omisore, Governor Olusegun Mimiko, Governor Ayo Fayose and so many others, it is tragic that the field will now be left open for Buruji to riot without restraint.
“The South-West is the only region that has not occupied the prime office of the National Chairman of our great party since PDP came to power in 1999. It will be totally unacceptable, unfair, unjust and even destabilising if the region is denied its rightful honour at this momentous period of party restructuring and rebuilding. To claim that the South-West is not interested in the National Chairman position is delusional and wicked. We will fight with all legitimate tools to ensure that justice is duly served in this crucial matter. The present National Chairman should be wary of the few peripheral renegades pushing Kashamu’s unholy pipe dream”.
