Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State says his administration still has more infrastructure to handover to residents of the state.
Sanwo-Olu said this on Wednesday at the Lagos House, Marina, during a courtesy visit by the managements of United Bank for Africa (UBA), Ecobank and Optimus Bank.
He said that though there were about 39 days to the end of his first term in office, there were still developmental projects to handover to the people.
”We are still running our first term, about 39 more days to go and we can do a lot in 39 days. We still have projects to commission; we still have infrastructural development to handover to people.
”We have schools to handover and we still have all of the promises that are still validly within this first term for us to still give to our people. We don’t have any idle time, after the election, there have been several things we are doing and will continue to do.
”What that tells us is really that we need to do lot more work, given the confidence and the expectations of people and the businesses we have in Lagos.
”We are doing all of the things that we need to do to ensure that the state is positioned and well put where it can continue to receive businesses, it can continue to remain home to big corporations and organisations,” the governor said.
He said that the government needed strategic partners like the banks to further deepen development in the state.
Speaking earlier, the Group Managing Director of UBA, Mr Oliver Alawuba, said that the bank’s 74 years history of operations began in Lagos, hence, commended the governor for ensuring enabling environment for businesses to thrive.
Alawuba said that with 125 business offices of UBA Group in Lagos, the institution had enjoyed the hospitality, success and continued support of the people and government of Lagos State as partners in progress.
He said that Lagos is made up of 25 per cent of the bank’s branches and 50 per cent of its income came from its branches in Lagos State.
”We remain committed to our mandate of expanding and supporting the economic growth of Lagos, driving development through capital inflow, finance, investments and payments,” the group managing director said.
Also speaking during the Ecobank management’s courtesy visit to the governor, the bank’s Managing Director, Mr Bolaji Lawal. commended Gov. Sanwo-Olu for the impacts he had made in the state, which he said had earned him (the governor) a second term.
Lawal said the governor had a lot of goals and visions for the state and Ecobank was ready to partner the state government on its developmental mission.
In the same vein, during Optimus Bank’s courtesy call on Gov. Sanwo-Olu, the Managing Director of the bank, Dr Ademola Odeyemi said that the bank was ready to collaborate with Lagos State Government to further deepen development in the state.
Odeyemi commended the governor for creating the enabling environment for businesses to thrive in the state.
