The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) says it will issue an ultimatum to shut down economic activities in Nigeria within 48 hours if Kaduna State government fails to reverse its mass disengagement of workers.

NLC President, Comrade Ayuba Wabba, said this on Wednesday while addressing the protesters in Kaduna.

According to Wabba, failure of the Kaduna State Government to reach the Congress’ demands would amount to more actions which would result to affecting the economy of Nigeria within the remaining two days of their procession in the state.

He expressed dismay over the attack carried out on them on the second day of their peaceful procession.

“The attack on us yesterday is highly demeaning and uncalled for, we know the sponsors and we pray for God Almighty to bring their downfall, we will, however, not relent in our peaceful course,’’ he said.

According to Wabba, “When any tier of Government refuses a lawful avenue of engagements to address issues but resolved in using violence especially to address industrial-related matters, that shows incapacity to lead.”

“We have come out today stronger, we will not be deterred by any form of threats or manhandling, we are peaceful Nigerians seeking redress over inhuman acts and we shall see it to the end,’’ he said.

Wabba noted that their strike actions and updates were being communicated to the European Union, United Nations and other international authorities.

“We have written to many international authorities of our peaceful procession and we have their backings, should any further abuse of our rights be made or sponsored and later unravelled, they will act to protect our rights,’’ Wabba said.

He called on residents of Kaduna and those affected by the mass disengagement to remain resolute, assuring them that the NLC actions would yield positive result.
