The ongoing voters registration is a critical exercise that every eligible Nigerian should participate in, the Bayelsa State Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Daniel Iworiso-Markson, said on Friday.
He spoke to newsmen in his home town Opume, Ogbia local government area of the state shortly after inspecting the ongoing exercise.
He expressed satisfaction with the large turnout of people for the exercise and urged those who are qualified by age but are yet to be registered to do so in order to give them the chance to vote in the next general elections.
Iworiso-Markson said: “The next round of elections are some months away. I came basically to see the process of registration and I must say it is very impressive. This shows the seriousness of our people to be fully involved in the electoral process. This is the first step for those who have attained the required age.
“For us as Ogbia people, we want our votes to speak for us in the next election. We want to be fully involved and that is why we came out to mobilize our people sufficiently and I commend the INEC officials who have been here in the last three weeks.
“Let me use this opportunity to call on all those who are yet to be registered to come out and do so before the expiration of the period. I believe the INEC officials will go round other communities to give opportunity to everyone”.
Iworiso-Markson appealed to INEC to extend the exercise to give more people the chance to be registered and obtain the Permanent Voters Card (PVC), which he described as the best tool to use in selecting good leaders that will bring development.
The Information Commissioner maintained that the administration of Governor Henry Seriake Dickson believes in free and fair elections which begins with the voters registration and is ready to always provide the right environment to ensure the people are not left out.
