Supporters of former National Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and the party’s candidate for Anambra Central Senatorial District in the March 28 election, Chief Victor Umeh, trooped to Awka streets on Monday, shortly after the Court of Appeal sitting in Enugu, sacked the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Senator Uche Ekwunife, from representing the district at the National Assembly.
The court’s judgement was consequent upon an appeal filed by Umeh.
Umeh had earlier lost to Ekwunife at the Election Petitions Tribunal in Awka.
At its ruling on Monday, the Appeal Court described the tribunal’s ruling as “a perverse judgement which cannot stand”.
It, therefore, ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to conduct fresh election within 90 days.
