U.S. investments in Nigeria in 2013 hits $50m, says Consul -General

United States (U.S.) Consul -General in Nigeria, Mr Jeffrey Hawkins, on Monday said that his country’s investment in the Nigerian economy so far in 2013 had reached $50 million  (N7.89 billion).

Hawkins announced this during a courtesy visit to the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) in Lagos.

He said that the American government was building a solid trade framework with the Nigerian government to ensure increased growth.

The Consul-General called for the creation of transparent investment environment by the management of the stock exchange to increase investor participation.

Hawkins said that the country’s economy would not grow without the capital market.

Mr Oscar Onyema, NSE Chief Executive Officer, said that the NSE would support economic ties between the two countries.

He said that the NSE would drive portfolio investments from the deepest market (New York Stock Exchange) in the world to ensure increased activities in the nation’s bourse.

Mr Sam Ndata, a senior stockbroker on the NSE, called for U.S. assistance in bringing more investments and development to the nation’s capital market.
