Musa Nimrod, the president of the Nigeria Volleyball Federation (NVBF), on Monday in Abuja commended the Nigeria under 17 female volleyball team for victory against Cameroon.
Nigeria defeated Cameroon 3-1 in their second game of the ongoing 2023 Girl’s U17 African Nations Volleyball at the Moshood Abiola Stadium in Abuja.
The president said: “This is the first time Nigeria is winning an Under age tournament .
“The female team is fortunate in their game today, on Saturday they lost their first match to Egypt and I think that they have corrected their errors.
“They played a wonderful match today and they are growing a lot, some of them will go professional abroad, ”he said
Nimrod urged the technical crew to have a good game plan ahead of the semi final match on Wednesday as they would be playing Cameroon.
‘ I will advise the technical team and the players to have a good game plan. so that they will also win the semi final match on Wednesday,” he said.
He said that the three participating countries :Egypt, Cameroon and the host Nigeria have automatically qualified to fixture in the world cup in 2024.
“We have all gotten the tickets and the important thing now is the ranking and I can assure you that our girls are good,” Nimrod said.
“The Cameroonians are very tough and some of them have their roots from Mabilla Plateau and Adamawa that is the reason why they are tall compared to our girls.
“We also need to go to Taraba and Adamawa and Maiduguri to get this tall players.
” I have confidence that these girls will do well in their remaining games, ”he said
Nigeria lost their opening game against their Egyptian counterparts 0-3 while Cameroon also lost their first game to Egypt 2-3.
Nigeria will meet Cameroon in the semi final on Wednesday.
The 2023 Girl’s U17 African Nations Volleyball which started on Saturday is expected to end on Dec. 8
