Trinity University (TU), Yaba, Lagos has integrated a Skills Acquisition Academy, making skills development a compulsory component of students’ training to strengthen graduates’ employability.
The Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. Clement Kolawole, disclosed this on Wednesday at the 4th edition of the university’s annual Campus Flaws, held at TU City Campus, Yaba.
The programme was also organised to address social vices among young people, prepare prospective undergraduates for university education and promote career development.

Kolawole said the academy would focus on developing students’ employability, entrepreneurial and marketable skills through partnerships with relevant institutions.
He explained that making the skills training compulsory was part of the university’s effort to produce academically excellent and disciplined graduates, equipped for life beyond the classroom.
“ We are focusing on giving students critical employability skills. The academy aims to develop students’ entrepreneurial and marketable skills through partnerships with leading institutions.
“This event is organised to expose prospective undergraduates, particularly SS3 students, to career guidance, university preparation and insights needed to make informed career choices.”
The TU Vice-Chancellor also emphasised good character and responsible behaviour, saying students must develop values that would guide their conduct and help them become responsible members of society.
The event, attended by no fewer than  500 SS3 students from 10 schools, was organised in collaboration with Etiquette Poise and Protocol Resources (EPRA) and featured a panel session and stage play.
It featured panel session, stage play, choices, personal culture in university, goal setting for academic success, leadership motivation, questions and answer session.

Speaking at the event, Nollywood actress, Mrs Yvonne Jegede, urged students to remain focused on their goals, avoid unhealthy comparisons and stay determined despite challenges.
“Do not compare your journey with anyone else’s; focus on your goals, protect your future and remain determined, because your story is uniquely yours,” she said.
In his remark, Mr Tobi Makinde, popularly known as Timini, a Nollywood actor, filmmaker and director, advised the students to take their academics seriously while developing good character.
He emphasised that education and skills alone could not guarantee lasting success.
Makinde, who is known for his role as Timini in Jenifa’s Diary, said students must remain focused on their studies and acquire relevant skills, but should recognise that good character would determine how far they go in life.
The panelists advised students to take their education seriously while developing entrepreneurial and leadership skills that would prepare them for opportunities beyond graduation.
They also stressed the importance of academic excellence, social interaction and personal development, urging students to acquire skills that could enable them to create opportunities for themselves and others.
