A 50-year-old trader, Tade Williams, on Thursday, appeared before an Okitipupa Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ondo State over alleged stealing of cash and 72 kegs of diesel worth N1.3 million.
The defendant, whose address was not given, is facing a three-count charge, bordering on felony, stealing and assault.
The Police Prosecutor, ASP Zedekiah Orogbemi, told the court that the defendant and her two friends, still at large, on Sept.10 around 08.30 p.m. at Alapere area, Agadagba in Okitipupa magisterial district, conspired to commit felony and stealing.
Orogbemi said that the defendant, with the assistance of others at large, stole 72 jerry cans of diesel, valued at N1, 035, 000 and N300, 000 cash, both totaling N1,335,000, belonging to one Adebayo Sadiq, in his shop.
He added that the defendant, with others at large, also assaulted one Kamoru Abass by beating him and inflicting him with varying degrees of injuries for resisting their criminal acts.
According to Orogbemi, the offences are punishable under Sections, 516, 390 (9) and 412 of the Criminal Code, Cap.37, Vol. I, Laws of Ondo State, 2006.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges preferred against her.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr Chris Ojuola, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200,000, with two sureties in like sum.
He said that the sureties, who must reside within the court’s jurisdiction, must also show and present evidences of two-year tax payment made to the state government.
Ojuola, thereafter, adjourned the case till Dec. 5, for further hearing.
