Information Technology (IT) expert, Mr Jide Awe, has commended President Bola Tinubu’s nationwide broadcast, describing the unveiled policies as laudable.
Awe, the Chief Executive Officer, Jidaw Systems Ltd., an information technology solution provider, made the commendation in an interview on Tuesday in Lagos.
He said that the Federal Government’s plans to implement these new policies, had portrayed President Tinubu as “one with listening ear, concerned about the economic hardship caused by the removal of subsidy.
“I want to believe that the subsidy removal has helped the government to save some money, and it is trying to redirect the funds to do something that would make the economy more productive.
“However, I hope the government is not just informing the citizens about these policies to calm them down, implementation is very key, “he noted.
Awe said that most times polices were unveiled without proper implementation by government.
He urged the Federal Government to keep to its promises and ensured it implemented the policies as announced to enable the suffering masses feel the impact of the palliatives of the subsidy removal.
“The Federal Government should be more result- oriented so that it can actually make positive impact in the growth of the country, ”he said.
He noted that the Federal Government should not have waited for Nigerians to suffer the effect of the subsidy removal before announcing its plans.
Awe explained that the policies should have been implemented much earlier as soon as the removal of subsidy was announced.
Awe, however, described as inadequate, government’s plans to fund 75 enterprises, saying that Nigeria was a very big country.
According to him, funding that number of enterprise will not make much impact in tackling youth unemployment and encouraging innovative businesses to thrive.
He urged the government to prioritize the information technology sector while implementing it policies.
Awe added that the ICT industry was critical to the growth of agriculture, startups, health and education sectors in any society.
