Rivers crisis

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, on Monday, directed all impeachment proceedings initiated against Governor Siminalaye Fubara by the Rivers State House of Assembly, led by Speaker Martin Amaewhule, to be dropped with immediate effect.
Fubara was also told to withdraw court matters instituted against the lawmakers.
The resolutions follow a meeting with the governor and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, who is the Minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT), at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Former Governor Peter Odili (1999 – 2007) and other stakeholders attended the meeting.
The president also directed Fubara to recognise Martin Amaewhule as Speaker of the Assembly and the other 26 members who defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) as lawmakers.
Fubara was also told to pay their salaries immediately.

Aside all these, he is to re-present the more than N800 billion 2024 Budget and names of pro-Wike commissioners who resigned should be re-submitted to the Assembly for approval.
