Thugs attack senators, journalists in Kaduna, destroy vehicles, cameras

But for Providence, Senators Shehu Sani and Othman Hunkuyi would have been shot dead on Sunday in Kaduna.
The two senators, who are at loggerheads with Governor Nasir el-Rufai of Kaduna State, were about to address a press conference at the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) Secretariat when thugs, suspected to be sympathetic to the state government, stormed the venue, shooting sporadically.
Security agents immediately whisked the senators away but windscreens of some of the vehicles parked in the premises were shattered with bullets.
Aside breaking the video camera of a journalist working with Liberty Television, his cameraman was severely injured.
Midgets, cameras, tripods for cameras and chairs at the Press Centre were destroyed.
Some of those injured have been admitted in a Kaduna hospital.
After the senators and journalists escaped from the scene, the dare-devil thugs moved to the road, shooting.
Some drivers and passengers had to abandon their vehicles in the pandemonium.
One of the journalists said: “My brother, this is terrible. There is no way the state government can exonerate itself from this attack. It is only God who saved us. What exactly are the senators going to say that will warrant this type of attack? I have never seen such madness in my life”.
Sani has been attacked many times in Kaduna and he has accused el-Rufai of sponsoring the attacks.
