Governor Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State, on Tuesday, swore-in the first female professor in the state, Prof. A’ishatu Madawaki, with three others as commissioners into the state executive council.

Madawaki, is a professor of Educational Psychology at Usmanu Danfodio University and was inaugurated along with Ahmed Barade, Garba Tsitse and Bello Ambarura.

Tambuwal also swore in a former member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Umar Bature and a former Rector of the state Polytechnic, Dr Bello Alkali as Special Advisers, while Alhaji Bello Buba was sworn as the Executive Chairman of Wamakko Local Government Area.

Speaking at the ceremony, Tambuwal tasked the new appointees to see their appointments as call to service, stressing that their appointment was based on merit.

“You were all selected based on merit in recognition of your track record in the service of Sokoto State.

“You are all experienced in your various fields of human endeavour and the state looks forward to getting positive contributions from you.

“Prof. Aishatu Madawaki has left an imprint in the area of girl-child education in Sokoto and we expect her to use her wealth of experience to improve on the education sector,” the governor said.

Tambuwal said government was desirous of affecting the lives of the people positively and would continue to explore various avenues to improve governance processes in the state.

He said in the light of this, the government would go ahead with earlier plans to establish the ministry, so as to tap from various renewable energy sources available in the state.

Addressing the Wamakko LGA Chairman, Tambuwal urged him to bear the challenges of local administration with honesty and integrity.

The chairman was elevated from the position of vice chairman following the election of the former chairman, Ahmad Kalambaina, as member representing Wamakko/Kware Federal Constituency during the bye-election.

He commended members of  the state assembly for the cooperation and understanding that had made the processes as well as passage of laws that promote the standards of livings in the state easy.

He recalled that his administration had hinted on establishment of ministry of energy aimed at maximal tapping of environmental resources for productive means and enjoined commissioners on harnessing the potentials in the state.

The governor then commended traditional rulers as well as members of the judicial service and expressed appreciation to the leadership of the All Progressive Congress (APC) for their advisory role.

The event also witnessed the swearing-in of Hassan Maccido as Permanent Secretary, while Umar Ahmad, Bello Mailato, Ahmad Ibrahim and Muslim Adamu as Directors-General in the state civil service.

The ceremony was attended by Speaker of the State Assembly, Alhaji Salihu Maidaji, Secretary to the Sokoto State Government, Prof. Bashir Garba, traditional rulers and politicians, among others.
