Kennedy Boboye, Head Coach of Sunshine Stars FC of Akure, has attributed the team’s 5-1 defeat of Rangers FC to the excellent performance put up by his players.
Boboye said this following the team’s victory in Wednesday’s week 34 rescheduled Glo Premier League match played at the Teslim Balogun Stadium in Lagos.
The game was played in Lagos as a result of the Akure fans’ hostility toward match officials in a week 34 game against Lobi Stars at home.
Following the development, all Sunshine Stars’ home games were moved to Lagos.
Boboye noted that the win was a morale booster ahead of the team’s next match against Bayelsa United.
League top scorer, Tunde Adeniji, scored a brace in the match, while Kehinde Adedipe and Dayo Ojo were also on the scoresheet.
Boboye said he was proud of the team’s performance against Rangers while he condemned the actions of home supporters over the weekend.
“I am very happy about this game; in spite of our weekend game, my team still remained focused and defeated Rangers with such a wide margin.
“The game against Lobi Stars on Sunday saw a very poor performance from our fans. Now we are travelling very far to honour our matches, we are paying the price.
“Sunshine Stars are comfortable wherever they are; take them anywhere and they will perform. This will help motivate us a lot in our game against Bayelsa this coming week,’’ he said.
Tunde Adeniji, a Sunshine Stars striker and current league top scorer, said he was happy about his team’s performance and wished to end the league as the top scorer.
“I’m grateful to God for the goals I scored here today; it serves as a motivation for me. We are footballers and we can play anywhere.
“In other home games played here, we will get results and I dedicate it to the fans,’’ Adeniji said.
Imama Amapakabo, Coach of Enugu Rangers, said his side was unfortunate to have received a red card which demoralised the team, but assured that they would get better in future games.
“It was very unlucky for our team to have picked a red card in the first half; and the penalty, this destabilised the team, but we will perform better in our next games,’’ he said.
Sunshine Stars currently occupy the 5th position with 56 points on the Glo League table, while Rangers are in the 12th position with 46 points.
Sunshine will face Bayelsa, while Rangers meet Lobi Stars in Makurdi on November 8 in week 37 fixtures.
