The Democrats Alliance for Good Governance (DAGG), a political pressure coalition, has cautioned against the imposition of the Speaker of the 10th House of Representatives.
Mr Williams Martins, the National Coordinator of the coalition, issued the warning in a statement made available to newsmen in Abuja on Sunday.
He said the coalition was taken aback and felt betrayed with speculations of purported endorsement of one of the aspirants for the position of the speaker.
Martins said genuine democrats were alarmed when they got the hint that the preferred aspirant was handpicked to be introduced to the President-elect.
He said: “This development for us is not only demeaning, but absurd to the electorate who voted during the February general elections.”
According to the group, men of goodwill and conscience as well as elected public office holders cannot afford to fold their hands while such imposition is allowed to go on unchallenged.
The coalition said “to allow such means that members-elect were unfit for the task of representation and would fail in holding the executive arm of government to account when the need arises”.
The coalition, therefore, warned against any action that could frustrate a united 10th Assembly and tenets of democracy.
He said: “While we do not have anything against the person and aspiration of the gentleman, we wish to stress that the will of the people and by extension of constituents would determine the choice of who to lead the 10th Assembly.
