The Nigera Football Federation (NFF), on Sunday, confirmed earlier media reports that striker, Victor Osimhen, is out of the crucial 2026 World Cup qualifier against the Bafana Bafana of South Africa.
The Galatasaray striker picked up injury during the Eagles match against Amavubi of Rwanda which Nigeria won 1-0.
After a fitness test conducted on Sunday shortly before departure to South Africa, Osimhen was asked to stay back because he was not comfortable.
NFF Director of Communications, Ademola Olajire, confirmed that the contingent arrived venue of the match without Osimhen.
The Super Eagles, Bafana Bafana match is billed to take place on Tuesday.
Nigeria is now in third position with 10 points behind South Africa in 16 points and Benin on 11 points.
The Tuesday encounter is decisive, especially for the Eagles as a draw could signal the end of the country’ s quest to feature at the 2026 FIFA World Cup billed for the United States, Mexico and Canada.
