Senator Godiya Akwashiki (SDP/Nasarawa North) has died at the age of 52, following a protracted illness.
A family source, who confirmed the incident on Thursday in Nassarawa Eggon, said that Akwashiki died in an Indian hospital on Wednesday, December 31, 2025.
He said that the death of the senator was a big blow and had left a big vacuum given his commitment to development of the senatorial zone and empowerment programmes.
“Since the history of Nasarawa North, Sen. Akwashiki was the best Senator, Nasarawa North ever produced due to his purposeful leadership.
“His projects is in every nook and cranny of the constituency as he was the only Senator that re-contested and won second term in the zone,” he said
Before his election into the senate in 2019, Akwashiki had served as Majority Leader and Deputy Speaker of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly.
Akwashiki was born on August 3, 1973, in Angba Iggah, Nassarawa Eggon, Nasarawa State.

Whlist one sympathise with Senator Godiya Akwashiki’s family. One has to question the constituent empowerment and engagement that doesn’t include decent hospitals and health care in the Nasarawa state that everyone would enjoy. Late Senator Godiya Akwashiki sounds like a career politician. Well, he will have to account to his lord/creator like everyone will. I hope this lesson and irony doesn’t go over the heads of all Nigerian politicians and civil servants and policy makers.
