The Senate on Wednesday rejected a motion by Senator Ireti Kingibe (LP-FCT) asking the upper chamber to intervene in several issues affecting the FCT.
The issues raised by the senator include the waste management crisis in Abuja, demolitions by the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) and non-payment of salaries of sweepers in the FCT among others.
President of the Senate Godswill Akpabio said Kingibe had approached him on her plan to present the motion, but said she only spoke on waste management.
He urged Kingibe to withdraw the motion and bring a substantive motion to discuss the issue solely on waste management.
Sen. Mohammed Monguno (APC-Borno) agreed with the senate president and said, “There is nothing to discuss based on our rules because you can’t put something on nothing,” Monguno said
Leader of the Senate, Opeyemi Bamidele, asked the Senate President to move on with other issues on the order paper, adding that Kingibe did not follow the rules of the senate in presenting the motion.
Responding, Kingibe said, “I will represent as a substantive motion on just waste management”.
