Scores of people were killed on Saturday when a young female suicide bomber detonated an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) at the Yen-Kaji section of the popular Monday Market in Maiduguri, Borno State capital.
Many live chickens were also roasted in the blast.
State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Gideon Jubrin, confirmed the killings.
He said the suicide bomber detonated the device near the area of the market where chickens were sold.
He confirmed that 18 persons sustained various degrees of injury in the blast and they are being treated in various hospitals.
