Saraki dismisses rumour of return to PDP‏

The Chairman, Senate Committee on Ecology and Environment, Dr. Bukola Saraki, denied on Sunday rumours of plans by him to return to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The PDP in Kwara State had, in a statement, alleged that the former governor who along with the G5 governors defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) was making underground moves to rejoin the PDP following the resignation of Alhaji Bamanga Tukur as national chairman of the ruling party.

But a statement by the senator not only denied any such moves but went ahead to call on his supporters to work hard in building a formidable APC in the state. He argued that the rumour was meant to deflect possible sanction against those leading the PDP in the state once Abuja realises their weak political base.

Excerpt from the statement which was signed for Saraki by a chieftain of the APC, Prince Yemi Afolayan, reads: “Insinuations that we are pleading to come back to the PDP can only exist in the infantile imagination of those behind the rumour.

“It is crystal clear to all Nigerians by now that what we have engaged ourselves with is not the politics of the stomach as must be the pastime of those who could have sat down to author such wild rumour.”

“I want to assure my people across the length and breath of Kwara state that we have decided together to move with the tide of time; we are in a secured position where we are now and the changes in the leadership of PDP are not enough to make us change that decision.

“Those who are peddling rumour about our change of course are only doing that because they are afraid of their looming failure in the coming weeks when their paymaster would have realised how impotent they are in the political calculations of Kwara .

“I urge my people to disregard them and go about the task of building a formidable APC in the state.”
