Mr Femi Owoeye, Operations Manager at Trash Monger, has stated that the ban on sachet water would help address waste management challenges in the country.
He made this statement in an interview with our Correspondent in Abuja on Tuesday.
“Trash Monger specialises in plastic recycling, waste, and food management. It is a youth and community-led social enterprise operating within Nigeria’s sustainable waste management and environmental services sector.
“The ban on sachet water is a step in the right direction and long overdue. However, given the current economic situation, there should be measures in place to cushion its impact.
“There must be sustainable and affordable alternatives because not everyone can afford bottled water.
“Additionally, provisions should be made to support businesses and jobs in this sector, as many people are employed in it”.
Owoeye acknowledged that while the ban is a positive step for the environment, it will inevitably affect some businesses and individuals.
“This measure will lead to economic downturns and job losses. However, it will also help tackle waste management and recycling challenges in the country”.
He expressed optimism that the policy could be effective if properly enforced, adding that it would also help address production-related issues.
