Resident doctors suspend 10-day strike

The National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) has suspended its 10-day-old strike and directed members to resume work immediately.
In a statement on Thursday in Abuja, NARD President, Dr Onyebueze John, said the Executive Council of NARD met from Tuesday to Thursday where it reviewed the  offer from government, following a  re-negotiated Memorandum of Terms of Settlement (MTS).
He said that after due consideration of the efforts by government and progress made in addressing the items on the notice of their ultimatum, and strike, as well as implementing the contents of the re-negotiated MTS the association resolved to suspend the strike.
John said the council would reassess the situation at the association’s Annual General Meeting in Abuja coming up in two weeks.
“We sincerely thank the public, press and our families for their support during this period of strike” he said.
NARD declared indefinite strike September 5, to press for the payment of shortfall in salary of members among other demands.
