The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) has given the Kano State Government two weeks to address the poor working condition of its members or face industrial action.
The Vice Chairman of the NMA in the state, Dr Sanusi Mohammed, issued the ultimatum while briefing newsmen in Kano on Thursday.
He said the decision to give the ultimatum was taken during the annual general meeting of the association and election of its officials held between July 20 and July 23.
“The meeting also discussed, among other things, the need for the state government to urgently address the poor working conditions of doctors working for the state.
“Provision of adequate hospital equipment and materials necessary for effective delivery of healthcare services in the state.
“The NMA is hereby notifying the Kano State Government to do all the needful within the remaining two weeks left to prevent disruption of doctors’ services in the state,” he said.
He, however, said that the association would do its best to ensure that the two sides settle the dispute before the expiration of the ultimatum.
Mohammed said during the week-long activity, the association had visited orphanage and less privileged people where it donated relief materials and drugs in addition to pledging free medical services.
