The police on Friday arraigned a 43-year-old man, Owolabi Temitope, before an Ado-Ekiti Magistrates’ Court over alleged N1.3 million fraud.
The defendant, of no fixed address, is charged with fraud.
The police prosecutor, Insp Sodiq Adeniyi, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on April 6, 2023 at about 02:00p.m. in Ado-Ekiti.
He alleged that the defendant obtained the sum of N1.3 million from the complainant, Mr Olaleye Arinola, on the pretext of being a building engineer.
Adeniyi said the offence contravened Section 329(2) &(3) of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021.
He urged the court to adjourn the case to enable him study the file and assemble his witnesses.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge preferred against him.
Counsel to the defendant, Mr Stephen Ademuagun, urged the court to grant his client bail, with a promise that he would not jump bail.
In her ruling, the Magistrate, Mrs Olubunmi Bamidele, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.
She adjourned the case till Feb. 8 for hearing.
