The Sokoto State Police Command said on Sunday it had adopted “stringent security measures” to arrest members of a syndicate that used motorcycles for robbery operations in petrol filling stations in Sokoto.
The Police Commissioner, Alhaji Shaibu Gambo, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Sokoto that effective operational order on the exercise had been issued to the officers and men of the command across the state.
He said that plain-clothed security personnel had been deployed within the metropolis and its environs to ensure success of the strategy.
He also called on security men and petrol attendants to be security conscious while discharging their official duties.
“Filling stations should not be a place for parking cars or waiting for passengers as that gives room for criminals to strike.”
Gambo called on the public to assist the command with intelligence reports that could lead to the arrest and prosecution of criminals in state.
He said the command would continue to initiate various forms of security strategies that would enable the people to conduct their normal activities without any hindrance.
