Some members of the Plateau State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), at the weekend, booed the governorship candidate of the party, Senator Gyang Pwajok.
Freedom Online learnt that the action was based on a protest that Pwajok was imposed on them and did not win the primaries.
The incident happened in Shendam and Langtang South, Southern Senatorial District of the North-Central state.
Shendam is the home town of the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Simon Bako Lalong, a lawyer.
When Pwajok arrived the town with his entourage, angry youths chased him with stones, shouting: “We don’t want PDP. APC is our party. Lalong is our next governor”.
The security aides of Pwajok could not deter the protesters from stoning the convoy. After a few minutes, Pwajok left the town.
In Langtang South, an intra-party crisis left to Pwajok hurriedly leaving the town.
Freedom Online learnt that during the primaries, one Prince Vincent Venman won the PDP Assembly seat but his name was later changed and the ticket given to Lokfa Bako.
Both Venman and Bako’s supporters stormed the campaign venue of Pwajok. While Bako’s supporters were there to hail him, Venman’s supporters protested Pwajok’s support for Bako.
All hell broke loose as sticks and bottles were freely used by the combatants. Pwajok had to hurriedly leave the venue.
Policemen later restored order.
