Penny International College, Lagos, on Friday won the 19th edition of the Bible quiz for secondary schools organized by the Bible Society of Nigeria (BSN).

Master Ugochukwu Williams and Miss Chioma Samuel of Penny College pulled 90 points to defeat their closest rival, Archdeacon Dennis Foundation International Boys Secondary School, Egbu, Enugu, which garnered 50 points.

The third position went to Baptist Model High School, Eruwa, Oyo State, which pulled 45 points.

Eight schools took part in the competition which included schools from Adamawa, Rivers and Kwara states

The first position got trophy for the school, N80,000 cash prize each for participants, Bible, school bags, certificates and customized 40 leaves exercise book.

The second and third positions got every other items with cash prizes of N60,000 and N40,000 each, respectively.

Pastor Samuel Sanusi, the General Secretary/Chief Executive Officer of BSN, called on churches, Christian organizations and individuals to sponsor the BSN Bible quiz competition.

Sanusi said that winners and contestants of the quiz competition deserve more to encourage them.

According to him, some of the contestants come from across the country and deserve better incentives for the effort they put into the preparation for the quiz.

He expressed delight that most schools turned up for the competition in 2022 due to improved security across the country.

“Over the years, what BSN does is to accommodate the contestants outside Lagos for days and feed them.

“We provide a token to them as transport to ensure that they didn’t just go empty handed.

“But I believe very much that as Christians in Nigeria, we can do much more for these students every year.

“I want to let Christians to know that this program is up for sponsorship.

“I would appreciate if individual corporate organizations could give the winners one million naira each, and/or scholarships for their education.

“We still wish that every contestant go home with consolation prizes to encourage them to do more,” Sanusi said.

He said that he looked forward to a time when kingdom programs such as the Bible quiz would be more elaborate and more rewarding than what it is today.

Williams noted that the Bible quiz is organized to help the younger generation interact with the word of God, deepen their knowledge of God and model their lives according to Biblical principles.

He said he was grateful to God for making the first position together with his colleague.

Ugochukwu said that a lot of study time went into achieving the feat.
