The South-West Zone of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has berated the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Chief Nyesom Wike, and his Lagos-based ally, Deji Doherty, while dismissing reports of a purported inauguration of a caretaker committee for the party in Lagos State.
In a statement made available to journalists on Wednesday in Ibadan through the party’s Zonal Publicity Secretary, Chief Sanya Atofarati, the party described the claim as false, misleading and of no consequence.
The South-West PDP maintained that there is no faction within the party and stressed that it would not be distracted by individuals it described as “politically Displaced Persons (IDPs)” who have lost relevance within the political space.
According to Atofarati, “Wike and his political IDPs have reduced themselves to mere jesters on the national political stage. Their actions portray desperation and confusion, which Nigerians can clearly see.”
He added that Wike has become politically isolated in his home state of Rivers and no longer enjoys acceptance across party lines.
“Today, Wike stands politically orphaned. He belongs neither to the PDP nor to the APC. His overzealousness and overbearing disposition have alienated him from well-meaning Nigerians across political divides,” Atofarati said.
He warned that Nigerians would hold Wike, Tinubu and the ruling APC leadership responsible should democratic values continue to suffer setbacks in the country.
Reaffirming the leadership of the PDP in Lagos State, Atofarati stated unequivocally that the only legally constituted Executive Committee of the party in the state is the one led by Hon. Philip Aivoji.
He urged party members and the general public to disregard “political wanderers and impostors parading themselves as a PDP caretaker committee in Lagos State,” describing them as inconsequential and lacking constitutional backing.
