PDP NWC suspends party’s national conference

The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) said on Wednesday that it had suspended all activities related to the yet-to-be inaugurated committee on the party’s planned National Conference.
This is contained in a statement by the PDP National Secretary, Prof. Adewale Oladipo, in Abuja.
It stated that the decision was to “create room for further consultations and exhaustive consideration of the report of the party’s Post Election Assessment Committee”.
The report of the PDP Post Election Assessment Committee, headed by the Deputy Senate President, Senator Ike Ekweremadu, is due for submission in September.
The statement stated that while the party’s national leadership appreciated the commitment and dedication of PDP leaders and members in rebuilding the party, there was need to allow proper consideration of the Ekweremadu-led committee’s report.

This, it said, was important, especially because it was headed by the highest elected PDP member in the nation.

“In that regard, therefore, the NWC directs that all activities of the committee on the proposed PDP National Conference be put on hold forthwith.

“The consideration of the report of the PDP Post Election Assessment Committee will include inputs from members of PDP leadership organs, immediately upon receipt of the report.’’

The organs, according to the statement, include PDP Governors’ Forum, PDP National Assembly Caucus, Board of Trustees, National Caucus, NWC and the National Executive Committee (NEC).

The NWC reassured critical stakeholders that they would be consulted and all necessary interests accommodated in the final composition of all the committees to be inaugurated in due course.
