Aminu Waziri Tambuwal Support Group, a support group for Sokoto State governor and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential aspirant, Hon. Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, has urged all the party’s delegates for Saturday’s presidential primaries to vote for Tambuwal as PDP flagbearer in 2019 presidential elections.
The group, in an open letter to PDP delegates on the presidential primaries, said the opposition party needs a candidate like Tambuwal, who has constitutional immunity, adding that PDP cannot afford to have “a candidate that can be thoroughly harassed and blackmailed to succumb by the desperate Buhari administration.”

The group stated that in Tambuwal, the party has the opportunity to give President Muhammadu Buhari a befitting retirement and thereby urged all the party delegates to cast their votes for the Sokoto State governor during the PDP presidential primaries in Port Harcourt.

“Every passing day reminds us that we have a country to save. Throughout the length and breadth of our country, our people are being killed in their thousands and we have lost count. Our economy is depressed and our youths are despondent. Our country is divided in ways that it has never been. Nigeria desires leadership now than ever. A new leadership that has eluded them for the past three years and one that can take them into the future. A Gallup survey revealed that Nigerians want a new type of politician and a younger candidate in 2019. Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal best fits this profile.

“We realise that the decision on our party’s flagbearer is not an easy one to make but one that must be made with all the seriousness that it demands. We have no doubt that a number of our party aspirants are qualified to be President of this country but given the key issues on ground, we cannot but put our best foot forward and this letter hopes to convince you with these three reasons why our man should fly this great party’s flag,” the group stated.

Stressing the need why Tambuwal should emerge as PDP presidential candidate, the group stated: “Firstly, every member of this party knows that we simply cannot afford four more years of Buhari and must work together to defeat him. We have done our research and have hard facts – our candidate can defeat Buhari. Buhari’s biggest weapon is his war against corruption. Tambuwal can effectively counter this. He would be a candidate who has no corruption baggage, records or sentiment. We can boldly say that he is not under investigation for any form of corrupt practice and this matters a whole lot to Nigerians.

“Secondly, Tambuwal represents the type of unity candidate that can reintegrate our country. He is a Nigerian through and through with several deep and lasting relationships spanning the entire stretch of our country. He has no extremist tendencies or inclinations and does not believe in the superiority of any gender, tribe, religion or creed. Under his presidency, this big umbrella of ours would be sufficient for all.

“Thirdly, Nigerians are tired of leaders that simply make empty promises. The electorate this time would judge candidates by their performance. While President Buhari has failed running this country, Tambuwal is succeeding in Sokoto. He enacted the Right to Education Bill and embarked on the most ambitious school enrolment drive which led to the reduction of out of school children by 50 per cent within his first two years.

“One last thing, and a very important factor our party should be considering: we need a candidate with constitutional immunity. Tambuwal, an incumbent governor, has this in the bag. We cannot afford to have a candidate that can be thoroughly harassed and blackmailed to succumb by the desperate Buhari administration.”
