The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Oyo State Council, has urged elected public office holders to keep to their electioneering promises ahead of inauguration.

Its Chairman, Chief Ademola Babalola, and the Secretary, Sola Oladapo, made the plea in a statement on Tuesday in Ibadan.

Babalola and Oladapo said that discussion at the fifth Annual Shina Peller Ramadan Lecture/Iftar, would focus on holding elected public office holders accountable to their election promises.

Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar observed by Muslims worldwide as a month of fasting, prayer and reflections.

It also reports that the fifth edition of the Annual Shina Peller Ramadan Lecture/Iftar, organized by NUJ, would hold on April 8 by 4.00 p.m at the Dapo Aderogba Hall, NUJ Press Centre Iyaganku, Ibadan.

The lecture is entitled: “Inescapable Rewards of Kept, Unkept Promises in Public Offices: The Islamic Perspective”.

The union chairman and secretary said that the lecture would be chaired by the Sponsor, Rep. Shina Peller, the Ayedero of Yorubaland.

They said that the lecture was apt and timely ahead of the inauguration of the newly elected public of holders at the just concluded general elections.

According to them, the lecture aims at sensitizing the current and elected public office holders on the need to keep their electioneering promises.

“It will highlight the rewards inherent in keeping and not keeping promises as stated in the Holy Quran,” the union leaders said.

They appreciated Peller for consistently sponsoring the annual lecture with great commitment, praying that Almighty Allah would continue to bless him bountifully.

The union leaders said that the lecture would be delivered by Sheikh Hashim Atere, a renowned Saudi Arabia trained Islamic Scholar and prominent Alfa in the Chief Imam of Ibadanland-Council.
