Super Eagles left full-back, Juwon Oshaniwa, has declared his continued loyalty for the Nigerian national soccer team, despite not being considered by the new Eagles chief coach, Sunday Oliseh.

The player noted that he would never be involved in any act of dumping the Super Eagles in the nearest future as he is already a part and parcel of the Nigerian team.

“It is always an honour to play for my country. Very few things can match playing for huge country like Nigeria. I expect the new coach to be doing things his way and checking out some players. I know what am able to bring to any football team. He was at the world cup and saw me so he knows what I am capable of doing. I am always available to play for my country.”

Oshaniwa won his national team caps under Stephen Keshi but has not won another since the 2-2 draw in Uyo last year that condemned Nigeria to not defending their AFCON trophy. “It was a deeply sad day in the dressing room after. We gave ourselves a lot to do following the first defeat in the group but we thought we could get that win especially at home to take us through. It did not happen sadly.”
Since that match in Uyo Kingsley Madu and Chima Akas have played in that left back position along with Echiejile for new coach Sunday Oliseh.

Speaking of the world cup. Oshaniwa was also going to Brazil as Echiejile’s back up until the Monaco defender pulled out through injury. “I had no idea he had pulled out until we were travelling within the US for a friendly with the USMNT. I had a fever before that last friendly but I told the coaching crew that I would play. I got a few injections and played the full match”.

In Brazil, Oshaniwa emerged with credit as he played the four matches Nigeria played it. “It is every footballer’s dream to play at the World Cup. So for me on getting there I made up my mind to give 100% and make sure my country was not let down.”

Playing in the Scottish Premiership regularly with Hearts and the experience of playing and winning the AFCON means that Oshaniwa can certainly be able to win more caps for the Super Eagles. “As long as I keep playing well for my club I believe I will get more caps” he says with a con
