The Women and Children Global Life Foundation (WCGLF) a Non Governmental Organisation (NGO), on Monday presented writing materials to the pupils of Itire Primary School, Lagos State, to enhance their education.
WCGLF, an organisation registered with the state government, with focus on women and children support to ensure good social development.
It has the motto “Upholding the Human Dignity and Elegance in the Society”.
The organisation made the donation during its flagship program tagged “School Attendance Awareness Month” also known as “Back to School Program,”
It was to interface with parents, pupils and teachers of the school to know the preparedness of the people for the new academic session.
The session afforded participants opportunity to be abreast of challenges people were faced with in the pupils’ education, for stakeholders to proffer solutions.
Speaking at the event, which drew participants from the government agencies, parents, the civil society and the corporate world, the Director of the NGO, Alhaja Ganiyat Olabisi-Oyeniyi, said that children education should be everyone’s concern.
According to her, the organisation, as a member of Child Protection Network, is in the Vanguard of ensuring quality education of children, to envision a better future for the younger ones.
“Our mission is to find out how mentally prepared are the teachers, pupils and the parents for the just begun academic session.
“The session will enable us to have knowledge of areas that need aids or assistance, to enable us to get the best out of the session for improved children education.
*The writing materials that we are giving to the pupils is from our intuition that those are the basic needs of education at this level.
“It is going to continue with the provision of other things as may be required from our findings through this interface,” she said.
She commended the state for an improved learning environment and facilities in the place.
Olabisi-Oyeniyi said that the program was an annual project to foster advanced basic education in the public sector.
She urged parents and teachers to play their part in educating the children by ensuring punctuality and regularity of pupils at school.
In her remark at the event, the headmistress of the school, Mrs Hafseh Bakare-Abiola, said that the staff members were ready and alert to their obligations.
Bakare-Abiola said that the ministry had put up a lot of monitoring systems that teachers need not to be coerced by anyone to do what is expected of them.
She said that the provision of the Eko EduExcel daily-weekly charitable in the electric tablets given to teachers kept staff on their toes, as the consequence for any misdeed was severe.
Also speaking at the event, the Chairman, Parents Forum of the school, Mr Uche Uzoma, said that poor feeding was hindering children from coping with school activities.
Uzoma said that with the increase in the cost of items in the market caused by the removal of the petroleum subsidy, most parents had difficulties in meeting children’s basic nutritional levels that support their cognitive ability.
He appealed to the federal government and states to reintroduce the school feeding program to lessen the burden on parents and aid the pupils to learn.
