Speaker of the Ondo State House of Assembly, Olamide George, says the impeachment exercise carried out by 18 members of the Assembly on Friday “is irreversible”.
George, in company with 15 other members, spoke to newsmen on Monday at the Nigeria Union of Journalists(NUJ) Press Centre in Iyaganku, Ibadan, Oyo State.
The lawmaker claimed that the impeachment of Bamidele Oloyelogun and Ogundeji Iroju, the Speaker and Deputy Speaker respectively, was in order.
George also said that the impeachment was an in-house exercise which has a constitutional backing and was not targeted at anyone.
He denied reports that the impeachment was sponsored by Governors Rauf Aregbesola of Osun, Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State and APC National Chairman, Adams Oshiomhole.
George insisted that Oloyelogun and Ogundeji were not only impeached by 18 out of the 26 members of the Assembly but also suspended.
He called on President Muhammadu Buhari to wade into the matter by restoring law and order.
