Okorocha, el-Rufai, Amosun, Tambuwal, Aregbesola, 17 others shun APC governors’ meeting with Oyegun

Twenty two of the 24 governors on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), on Wednesday, boycotted the monthly meeting with the party leadership in Abuja.
It was the fifth in the series of the monthly meeting of APC National Working Committee (NWC) and governors.
A source at the national secretariat of the party disclosed that the governors were given “adequate notice” but some of them deliberately shunned the meeting because of their grievances with the National Chairman, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun.
Odigie-Oyegun reportedly said recently that he would prefer to follow the Constitution of the party, rather than allow some governors and power brokers hijack APC structure, especially at the state level.
Governors elected on the platform of the party are Bindo Jibrilla (Adamawa), Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar (Bauchi), Samuel Ortom (Benue), Kashim Shettima (Borno), Godwin Obaseki (Edo), Rochas Okorocha (Imo), Badaru Abubakar (Jigawa), Nasir el-Rufai (Kaduna), Abdullahi Umar Ganduje (Kano), Aminu Bello Masari (Katsina), Abubakar Atiku Bagudu (Kebbi) and Yahaya Bello (Kogi).
Others are Abdulfatah Ahmed (Kwara), Akinwunmi Ambode (Lagos), Umaru Tanko Al-Makura (Nasarawa), Abubakar Sani Bello (Niger), Ibikunle Amosun (Ogun), Oluwarotimi Akeredolu (Ondo), Rauf Aregbesola (Osun), Isiaka Ajimobi (Oyo), Simon Lalong (Plateau), Aminu Waziri Tambuwal (Sokoto), Ibrahim Geidam (Yobe) and Abdul-aziz Yari Abubakar (Yobe).
While Badaru Abubakar was at the national secretariat for the meeting, Obaseki sent his deputy, Philip Shuaibu. Others boycotted it.
When the party leadership later got wind of the fact that the governors would not attend, to save its face, it cancelled the meeting.
Abubakar and Shuaibu later left the party secretariat.
Freedom Online learned that two other governors were on their way to the meeting when they were told by their aides that it had been boycotted.
The source said: “It was later we heard that, probably, a few of them travelled outside the country. But even if this is so, they did that to spite the national chairman because they knew that they had been invited to attend the meeting”.
He declared that the major grouse of the governors was the way the national leadership has decided to be on the side of those the governors perceive to be their enemies at the state level.
“Some of these governors are not happy with the way the national leadership has decided to listen to those who protested the recent ward congresses across the states. We all know the governors who wrote the list of delegates at the Government House and elders in Abuja believe that if these governors are not checked, it may lead to the loss of many states in 2019.
“Also, two of the governors are at logger-heads with some principal officers at the national level and they believe Chief Odigie-Oyegun is supporting these officers”.
