The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has rejected allegations that Bola Tinubu or the All Progressives Congress (APC) are responsible for the party’s ongoing legal battles.
The party instead attributed the rising litigations and internal defections to the actions of Rabiu Kwankwaso and his associates, accusing them of attempting to take control of the party structure.
This position was outlined in a statement released in Lagos by the NNPP National Secretary, Mr Ogini Olaposi.
According to the party, the response followed recent public comments by Buba Galadima and members of Kwankwaso’s faction, who alleged that the president and APC were backing legal actions to block their influence within the party.
The NNPP dismissed the claims as baseless and described them as deliberate attempts to mislead the public.
The party argued that the internal crisis was triggered by efforts from Kwankwaso’s camp to dominate the party, despite being accused of no longer having legitimate standing within its structure.
It further stated that repeated court actions initiated by the group had contributed significantly to instability within the party, resulting in the exit of several members.
The NNPP also criticised what it described as attempts to drag external political actors into its internal issues, insisting that the allegations against President Tinubu and the APC were unfounded.
Looking ahead, the party expressed confidence in its political prospects, describing itself as a strong contender in the lead-up to the 2027 general elections.
It called on former members who left due to the crisis to return and be part of efforts to rebuild and strengthen the party.
The statement also referenced decisions reached at its 2025 national convention in Lagos, including provisions for automatic tickets for loyal elected members.
In addition, the party announced the commencement of a nationwide e-registration process in line with electoral guidelines issued by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The NNPP reaffirmed its commitment to peaceful political engagement, stressing that its focus remains on contributing to national development and serving the interests of Nigerians.
