Nigerian receives ASSP Regional Safety Professional award

The American Society of Safety Professionals (ASSP) has named Kamildeen Abiodun, as one of the nine individuals working tirelessly toward creating safe work environments by preventing workplace fatalities, injuries and illnesses.

The body in a post on its website on Thursday said that Abiodun was awarded ASSP Regional SPY award in acknowledgement of his dedication and outstanding contributions to safety in Region IX.

Region IX comprises countries in Europe, Africa, Middle East, Mexico and Asia.

The ASSP is a global association for occupational safety and health professionals.

It said that Abiodun, a former President of the American Society of Safety Professionals, Nigeria Chapter, demonstrated outstanding achievement in the Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) field while also advancing the OSH profession.

“He has delivered projects with zero lost time or fatalities till date,” it said.

Abiodun is a certified safety professional with over 21 years professional experience.

His career interests span Health, Safety, Environmental (HSE) in the Oil and Gas downstream and infrastructure industries project; safety management and operations support across three continents with remarkable HSE performance achievement projects.

He is a member of the Institute of Safety Professionals of Nigeria, ASSP and Institute of Occupational Safety and Health, U.K.

He also holds membership of Nigeria Environmental Society and Registered Provisional Auditor and ASSP Global Instructor.

Speaking on the award, Abiodun said it was a demonstration of the Nigerian spirit of loyalty, honor and glory.

“A commitment to be a Nigerian ambassador in my professional endeavor; thinking globally and acting locally for the betterment of the Nigerian populace,” he said.

For more than 100 years, ASSP has provided education, standards development, advocacy and professional community to support the advancement of its members and the profession as a whole.

ASSP members are dedicated to creating safe work environments by preventing workplace fatalities, injuries and illnesses.

It has members in more than 76 countries, including chapters in the Middle East, Kuwait, Nigeria, UAE, India, AP, Telangana, Maharashtra and many sections around the world.
