Nasarawa workers reject ‘table payment’ for salary

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) Nasarawa State Chapter, said on Tuesday it would call a general strike if the government insisted on table payment of August workers’ salaries.
Abdullahi Adeka, the state NLC Chairman, said in Lafia, that the method of payment was not part of the agreement it reached with the government on the issue.
“If government refuses to adhere to the terms of agreement reached with the union to pay workers through their respective banks, we will go on strike.
“This is what we can do in order to prevent the stress and the undue delay in the payments of our August salaries, “ he added.
He said there was need for the government to respect the agreement reached on the mode of payment, to maintain industrial harmony in the state.
“We have already agreed that salaries will be paid through the banks and anything short of what we agreed on, the union will not take it lightly,“ he said.
He called on workers in the state not to turnout for any scheduled table payments.
Dr. Dominic Bako, the state Head of Civil Service, on Sept. 4, said all workers in the state would receive their salaries through table payments.
