Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State has urged the people of the state to rise above ethnic and religious differences, and channel their efforts toward promoting unity and selfless service to God and humanity.

The governor gave the advice during the dedication of a book titled “History of Church of Christ in Nations (COCIN)”, on Sunday in Jos.

The book, written by various authors, was published by COCIN.

Mutfwang, who emphasised the significance of history toward the survival of any nation, said the book contained essential elements that would steer the Church in faith and steady growth.

“I am here not just because I am governor, but because I am also part of the history of this church.

“There is a saying that out of every 10 Plateau people, five or six may be COCIN members, so if Plateau is either failing or progressing, COCIN is playing a role.

“So, I pray that God will help us to rise above all the foolishness of tribalism and unite our hearts together; the secret is that all of us must strive to lay hold of God for ourselves that together, we can bring something to the table.

“I look forward to the day that we will rise up as Plateau citizens and pursue the purpose of God in this land and I believe we can do it” he said.

Mutfwang, who commended the initiative, encouraged Christians and indeed all Plateau citizens to be united and remain steadfast in spreading the gospel of Christ.

Earlier, Rev. Amos Mohzo, COCIN President, said that the book had properly documented the history of the church for future reference.

He encouraged all members to purchase copies of the book, adding that it would enable them learn about the church’s history, growth and development.

In a sermon, Rev. Sylvester Dachomo, Pastor in charge of COCIN Headquarters Church, venue of the event, emphasised the need to foster peace, tolerance and healthy relationship with God.

He urged the people to regularly heed to good conscience in decision-making and every other facet of their daily lives.
