islam_symbolMuslims on Friday in Abeokuta urged the Federal Government to use the occasion of the Ed-el-fitri to focus more on making the country a better place.

Those, who spoke with our correspondent, said they were not happy with the problems afflicting the country and urged government to address them promptly.

A respondent, Mr Yusuf Alejo, said that he had suffered untold hardship due to the economic situation in the country, adding that he was not happy with the rising level of unemployment.

“Ever since I graduated from the university in 2009, I have been searching for a job, but all to no avail.

“It is the grace of Allah that I am surviving with my family because I only do menial jobs to feed my family.

“I actually thank God for life and for making me witness another Ed-el-Fitri, but I am not happy with the present situation in the country,” he said.

Alejo appealed to the government to focus more on improving the living condition of Nigerians and prayed that God would help the country’s leaders to achieve this.

Mr Dele Bashiru, on his part said the hardship facing the country could only be solved by divine intervention.

“There are many problems facing our country and only prayers can solve them with the determination of our leaders to work harder.

“Many of the masses, including myself, are suffering to earn a living in spite of the fact that everything in the country is getting more expensive day by day.

“Right now, I cannot even celebrate the season with my family because the prices of food stuff have gone up during this period,’’ he said.

According to him, the leadership should henceforth seek the face of God before taking decisions on the affairs of the country.

Another faithful, Mrs Modinat Shoyemi, described the present economic hardship in the country as worrisome.

Shoyemi said: “If the government can provide social security safety valves for the masses, I am certain that an average Nigerian will be comfortable.

“I also enjoin everyone to help the country in his or her own way so we can speedily recover from these hardships and sufferings,” she said.

Shoyemi, however, commended government for intensifying efforts to boost the nation’s economy and urged it to do more to eradicate poverty.

Mrs Idayat Sanni, on her part, expressed optimism that the country would fare better in future.

“I am at the market to get food stuff for my family, but I discovered that prices of food items have become much higher than they used to be.

“I thank God for even coming to the market to buy stuff as most of my fellow Muslim brothers and sisters cannot do what I am doing now because of lack of funds.

“Our leaders should endeavour to make the wealth of the nation to circulate to everyone in the country as things will improve with this, ’’ she said.
