Danesha Couch is just like every other mama out there, except she’s had the pleasure of giving birth to fraternal twins—three times—during a 26 month span of time. No, we’re not kidding, and yes, we’re sure she’s heard, “Boy, you sure have your hands full!” a million times.
The 20-year-old Kansas City mom and her fiance, Jeffrey Pressler, welcomed the latest set of twins last month. The girls, Dalanie and Darla, have recently joined the rest of their family at home after spending the first few weeks of their lives in the NICU, and Mom and Dad are facing the challenge of having a ton of kids under three years old at home.
Her newest twinset joins older sisters Delilah and Davina, who are one, and older brother Danarius, who is two. Danarius was also a twin but his brother Desmond died from complications of prematurity.
And I know you’re wondering, but no, Danesha did not use fertility medications. She thought it was a huge fluke when it happened a second time, but was really shocked when twins happened a third time—and that’s probably the biggest understatement of the year.
Each one of her twinsets is fraternal, the chances of which tend to be affected by genetics. Still, the likelihood of anyone popping out two kids three different times is pretty low—research out of the UK pegs it to one chance out of 88,000.
Danesha reports that she loves babies, which is why she was on board for trying again after having twins the first two times. There is a caveat though—it won’t be any time soon. She tells Fox 4 that they’ll probably wait a decade or so before even thinking about having any more. And, frankly, the fact that she’s thinking about any more at all is truly amazing!
Incidentally, since all of her twins have been fraternal, she may be more apt to have another set of multiples again next time. The tendency to launch two eggs at once‚which is what happens in the case of fraternal twins—usually runs in families,. Identical twins on the other hand, just seem to happen for the fun of it, and there’s no genetic predisposition. Danesha’s girls, then, will be more prone to have fraternal twins themselves but not her son, as that tendency only follows girls around.
Danesha and Jeffrey plan to wed this September.
